Eurozone Services Activity Remains Strong in August

The S&P Global Eurozone Services PMI held steady at 51.7 in August 2026, matching July’s figure and coming in slightly above market forecasts of 51.5, according to flash estimates. The index remained at its highest level since February, with stronger tourism spending continuing to underpin growth — particularly in economies outside France and Germany, where services activity expanded at its fastest pace in more than three years. New export orders were broadly unchanged, but service providers accelerated hiring over the month. On the price front, input costs rose at a slightly quicker rate than in July, while output price inflation eased and may have matched March for the lowest rate so far this year. Even so, business confidence in the sector weakened, indicating that firms remain cautious about the outlook for the year ahead.
