UK Services Activity Accelerates in August as S&P Global PMI Edges Higher

The United Kingdom’s services sector showed a modest pickup in momentum in August 2026, according to the latest S&P Global Services Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) data. The headline Services PMI rose to 52.8 in August from 52.1 in July, indicating a slightly faster pace of expansion in the country’s dominant services industry.

A reading above 50 signals growth in activity, so the move higher suggests that business conditions improved marginally over the month. The gain from July’s 52.1 to August’s 52.8 points to continuing resilience in services, which remain a key driver of the UK economy.

The figures, updated on 21 August 2026, will be closely watched by market participants and policymakers assessing the strength and durability of the UK’s economic expansion through the second half of the year.
