US Personal Income Rises More than Expected

Personal income in the US increased by 0.4% month-over-month to $27,115 billion in July 2026, accelerating from a 0.2% gain in June and exceeding market expectations for a 0.2% rise. This marked the ninth consecutive monthly increase in personal income, highlighting the resilience of the US economy in the face of energy price shocks and elevated borrowing costs. Meanwhile, disposable personal income grew by 0.5%. The gains were driven by higher private-sector wage compensation, increased government social benefits—particularly from Medicaid and Medicare—and stronger personal income receipts on assets, including dividend income.
