US Wholesale Inventories Growth Tops Forecasts

US wholesale inventories increased 1.3% month-over-month in July 2026 to $959.1 billion, according to advance estimates, following an upwardly revised 0.3% rise in June and far exceeding market expectations for a 0.1% gain. This was the sixth straight monthly increase and the strongest since March, supported by a rebound in nondurable goods inventories (up 1.6% after a 0.4% decline in June) and faster growth in durable goods inventories (up 1.2% after 0.8%). On an annual basis, wholesale inventories were up 5.7%.
