China’s RatingDog Manufacturing PMI Edges Higher in August, Signaling Firmer Expansion

China’s RatingDog Manufacturing Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) strengthened in August 2026, pointing to a firmer pace of expansion in the country’s factory sector. The index rose to 51.5 in August from 50.9 in July 2026, according to data updated on 1 September 2026.

The move further above the 50-point threshold—commonly viewed as the divide between expansion and contraction—suggests manufacturing activity in China continued to gain traction over the summer period. The uptick from July’s reading indicates improving operating conditions and a modestly more positive backdrop for industrial output as the third quarter progresses.
