Australia’s Q2 2026 GDP Growth Edges Up to 0.4% QoQ, Extending Modest Expansion

Australia’s economy strengthened slightly in the second quarter of 2026, with gross domestic product (GDP) rising 0.4% quarter-over-quarter, up from a 0.3% increase in the first quarter of 2026. The latest data, updated on 2 September 2026, point to a continuation of modest but steady expansion.

On a quarter-over-quarter basis, the new figure indicates that growth in the April–June period outpaced that of the January–March quarter, when GDP rose 0.3% compared with the final quarter of the previous year. The comparison framework shows that the “actual” 0.4% reflects the current quarter’s change versus Q1 2026, while the “previous” 0.3% represented the change in Q1 2026 against the quarter before it.

While still subdued in absolute terms, the incremental pickup suggests that Australia has maintained forward momentum through the first half of 2026, with the second quarter building modestly on the gains recorded earlier in the year.
