US energy firms injected 20 billion cubic feet (bcf) of natural gas into storage in the final week of August 2026, bringing total inventories to 3.214 trillion cubic feet (tcf). The figure was broadly in line with market expectations for a 31 bcf build and marked a resumption of the typical restocking pace after a slowdown over the previous two weeks. The increase was driven mainly by the East region, where stocks rose by 26 bcf to 753 bcf, and the Midwest, where inventories climbed by 24 bcf to 890 bcf. As a result, total US natural gas storage stood 5.2% above the current five-year average, though it remained 1.5% below the level recorded a year earlier.
