China’s trade surplus widened to USD 119.09 billion in August 2026, up from USD 101.09 billion a year earlier and in line with market expectations. Exports rose 25.0% year-on-year to USD 401.44 billion, matching consensus forecasts. At the same time, imports jumped 28.2% year-on-year to USD 282.36 billion, accelerating from a 27.5% increase in July. China’s trade surplus with the United States expanded to USD 29.18 billion in August from USD 28.03 billion in July. Over the first eight months of 2026, the country’s cumulative trade surplus reached USD 805.51 billion, compared with USD 785.30 billion in the same period a year earlier, with exports and imports up 19.3% and 27.0%, respectively.
