Swiss Consumer Morale Least Negative in 6 Months

Switzerland's consumer confidence index rose to -33 in August 2026 from -40 a year earlier, signaling an improvement in household sentiment but still falling slightly short of market expectations of -32. This was the least negative reading since February, with the strongest gains seen in views on the economic outlook: the corresponding sub-index climbed to -36 from -66 in August 2025.

Assessments of households’ past financial situation improved marginally, to -39 from -40, while expectations for their future financial situation deteriorated slightly, with that sub-index edging down to -30 from -29. The indicator measuring whether it is a good time to make major purchases also fell, to -26 from -24, indicating that households remain cautious about discretionary spending. Overall, the headline index was also higher than in the previous month, when it stood at -35.
