Moldova Economy Grows 0.9% in Q2

Moldova’s economy grew by 0.9% year-on-year in the second quarter of 2026, up from 0.4% in the previous quarter. The acceleration was largely driven by exports, which jumped 13.6% and contributed 4.1 percentage points to GDP growth. Household consumption increased by 1.2%, adding 1.0 percentage point. Gross fixed capital formation rose 3.2%, contributing 0.8 percentage points, while public consumption grew by 1.8% and added 0.3 percentage points.

On the supply side, manufacturing was the main growth engine, with value added up 6.7% and contributing 0.5 percentage points. It was followed by agriculture, forestry and fishing, which grew 9.4% and added 0.4 percentage points, and the energy sector, which expanded 20.9% and contributed 0.3 percentage points. By contrast, information and communications (-7.9%; -0.6 percentage points) and construction (-7.5%; -0.5 percentage points) were the main drags on growth.

On a seasonally adjusted quarterly basis, GDP increased by 1.4%, rebounding from a 1.1% contraction in the first quarter. Over the first half of the year, GDP was up 0.6% compared with the same period a year earlier.
