Uruguay Economy Shrinks in Q2 2026

Uruguay’s GDP fell 0.5% year over year in the second quarter of 2026. Output in agriculture, fisheries, and mining contracted 22.2%, reflecting a weak soybean harvest in the 2025/2026 season caused by drought, as well as an unfavorable comparison with the prior season, which had delivered historically high yields. Manufacturing expanded 1.9%, supported by increased cellulose pulp production. Activity in trade, accommodation, and food and beverage services rose 2.8%, driven primarily by robust performance in the trade sector. Construction grew 4.2%, underpinned by higher investment in both nonresidential buildings and other construction projects.
