Qatar Lifts Key Interest Rate to 4.60% in September, Extending Tightening Cycle

Qatar has raised its benchmark interest rate to 4.60% in September 2026, up from 4.35% previously, according to data updated on 16 September 2026. The move marks a continuation of the country’s monetary tightening, reflecting a month-over-month increase in borrowing costs.

The latest figure represents a 0.25 percentage point rise compared with the prior month, building on earlier adjustments that had already pushed the rate to 4.35%. On a month-over-month basis, the “Actual” reading captures the change in the current month versus the previous one, while the “Previous” figure reflects how the rate moved in the prior month relative to the month before that.

With the policy rate now at 4.60%, financial markets and domestic borrowers will be watching closely for signs of how higher funding costs may affect credit demand, investment decisions, and broader economic activity in Qatar in the coming months.
