Frankfurt’s DAX 40 advanced about 0.7% to climb above 25,700 on Thursday, its highest level in more than a week, supported by falling oil prices and easing global bond yields after the widely expected 25-basis-point rate increase by the US Federal Reserve. Fed Chair Kevin Warsh struck a firmly anti-inflation stance without provoking an additional spike in long-term yields, a combination that investors greeted positively. At the same time, President Trump threatened the European Union with “very serious tariffs” or trade restrictions in response to European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen’s proposal to pave the way for Canada to become the bloc’s first “associate member.”
