The growth in new car registrations in the Czech Republic nearly came to a standstill in August 2026, with the indicator easing sharply to 0.60% year-on-year. This marks a dramatic slowdown compared with June 2026, when car registrations were still expanding at a robust 18.90% annual rate.

The data, updated on 24 September 2026, show that while the market remains marginally in positive territory, the momentum seen earlier in the summer has largely evaporated. On a year-over-year basis, the “actual” figure for August compares registrations in that month to August a year earlier, while the “previous” indicator reflected June’s performance against June of the prior year.

The steep deceleration from double-digit growth to effectively flat expansion suggests a significant cooling in demand or a normalization following earlier strength in the sector, with implications for auto dealers and related industries across the Czech economy.
