Costa Rica’s current account deficit widened to USD 239.8 million in the second quarter of 2026, up from USD 127.4 million in the same period a year earlier. This marked the largest current account shortfall since Q4 2024 and reflected a deeper deficit in the primary income account, which grew to USD 2,411.3 million from USD 2,348.3 million. At the same time, the surplus in the secondary income account rose to USD 189.6 million from USD 163.8 million. In contrast, the goods account deficit narrowed to USD 1,981.8 million from USD 2,057.2 million, while the services account surplus expanded to USD 2,407.9 million from USD 2,139.6 million.
