Norway’s seasonally adjusted number of registered unemployed fell to 61.3 thousand in September 2026, the lowest level since April 2025, down from a downwardly revised 61.9 thousand in August. This corresponded to 2.0% of the workforce, unchanged from the previous month, while the gross unemployment rate remained at 2.6%.
By occupation, tourism and transport recorded the highest gross unemployment rate at 3.5%. Academic professions, and health, nursing and care reported the lowest rates, at 1.0% and 1.1% respectively. Regionally, gross unemployment was highest in Østfold (3.2%) and Oslo (3.1%), and lowest in Troms at 1.5%.
Labor demand stayed robust, with 44.5 thousand vacancies advertised in September—about 1,900 per working day—an increase of 3% compared with a year earlier. On a non-seasonally adjusted basis, the number of fully unemployed stood at 59.4 thousand, down from 62 thousand a year earlier.
