Baltic Dry Index Up for 2nd Day

The Baltic Exchange’s dry bulk freight index, which measures rates for vessels transporting dry bulk commodities, rose for a second consecutive session on Friday, edging up 0.3% to 3,148 points, supported by gains in larger vessel segments. The capesize index, tracking ships that typically carry 150,000-ton cargoes such as iron ore and coal, also advanced for a second session, increasing 0.6% to 5,042 points. By contrast, the panamax index, reflecting vessels that usually transport 60,000 to 70,000 tons of coal or grain, slipped 0.3% to 2,372 points, while the supramax index declined 0.3% to 1,789 points. Over the week, the benchmark index posted a decline of 8.1%.
