DAX on Cautious Note

Frankfurt’s DAX 40 opened higher on Monday but slipped marginally into negative territory, trading just below 25,200 as investors weighed rising political risks in Europe. Sentiment was dampened by Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez’s decision to call snap elections for 29 November, following Congress’s rejection of two housing decrees put forward by his government. The announcement compounded existing worries over France’s mounting debt burden and political uncertainty ahead of next year’s election.

At the same time, oil prices moved lower, as indications of growing global supply outweighed persistent geopolitical tensions in the Middle East. On the corporate front, Siemens Healthineers, Infineon Technologies, Qiagen and Hochtief were among the weakest performers on the DAX, each losing more than 1%. In contrast, Continental bucked the trend, advancing 1.8% after Morgan Stanley upgraded the stock to “Overweight.”
