Malaysia’s GDP Growth Eases to 5.3% in Q3 2026, Down from 6.0% in Previous Quarter

Malaysia’s economy expanded by 5.3% year-over-year in the third quarter of 2026, slowing from a 6.0% increase recorded in the second quarter of 2026. The latest GDP data, updated on 16 October 2026, indicate a moderation in growth momentum on an annual comparison basis.

Both the current and previous readings compare quarterly output to the same period a year earlier, meaning the Q3 2026 figure is measured against Q3 2025, while the Q2 2026 figure was measured against Q2 2025. The deceleration suggests that while Malaysia continues to post solid year-over-year gains, the pace of expansion has cooled relative to earlier in the year.

The easing from 6.0% to 5.3% may prompt closer scrutiny from investors and policymakers, as they assess whether the slowdown is temporary or signals a more sustained shift in Malaysia’s growth trajectory heading into the final quarter of 2026.
