Japanese Shares Rise on Tech Rebound

The Nikkei 225 Index climbed 1.39% on Friday to close at 65,324, recovering part of the previous session’s losses as selling pressure on technology shares eased and investors reassessed the outlook for the artificial intelligence sector. Market sentiment improved after TSMC reported a record third-quarter profit, while Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang expressed confidence in the financial stability of AI computing provider CoreWeave Inc. In addition, Anthropic posted a nearly twelvefold jump in third-quarter revenue to $16.8 billion. Comfort also came from comments by Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh in Bangkok, where he avoided signaling an imminent interest rate hike despite stronger-than-expected US inflation data. Among notable tech gainers were Kioxia (up 3.8%), Taiyo Yuden (2.1%) and Lasertec (5.1%). Financial and consumer names also strengthened, with Mitsubishi UFJ rising 1.8% and Toyota Motor gaining 2.2%. Even with Friday’s rebound, the Nikkei 225 ended the week down 5.37%, its sharpest weekly decline since July.
