Canada’s Industrial Product Prices Accelerate in September, Signalling Rising Cost Pressures

Canada’s Industrial Product Price Index (IPPI) gained momentum in September 2026, underscoring building cost pressures at the factory gate. The index rose 2.0% month-over-month, up from a 1.2% increase recorded in August 2026, according to data updated on 22 October 2026.

The month-over-month comparison shows that price growth for industrial products is not only continuing but accelerating, as September’s advance outpaced the prior month’s change. In August, the IPPI had already risen 1.2% compared to July, but the sharper 2.0% increase in September points to a stronger upward trend in producer prices.

Given that the IPPI tracks prices that manufacturers receive for their products, the September jump may signal growing input cost pressures moving through Canada’s production pipeline. While the latest figures are limited to a monthly comparison, the quickening pace suggests that businesses and markets will be closely watching upcoming releases for signs of sustained inflationary pressure.
