Canada’s Raw Materials Price Index Accelerates to 27% in September, Extending YoY Surge

Canada’s Raw Materials Price Index (RMPI) continued its strong upward trajectory in September 2026, underscoring persistent cost pressures in the country’s production pipeline. Year-over-year, the RMPI rose 27.0% in September, up from a 22.8% annual gain recorded in August 2026.

The data, updated on 22 October 2026, show that input costs for Canadian manufacturers and producers are accelerating compared with the same period a year earlier. The previous reading measured August’s change versus August a year before, while the latest figure reflects September’s change compared with September of the prior year, confirming a broad-based upswing in raw material prices on a year-over-year basis.

The strengthening RMPI underscores the continued transmission of higher commodity and input prices through Canada’s supply chain, a dynamic that may influence corporate margins, pricing decisions, and broader inflation readings in the months ahead.
