The S&P Global France Composite PMI for October 2026 was sharply revised down to 46.6 from the flash estimate of 48.4, slipping from 51.1 in September. This confirmed a renewed contraction in France’s private sector, with activity declining at a solid pace and at the fastest rate since May. Both manufacturing and services registered downturns, though the contraction was markedly stronger in services. Output, new orders, and employment all fell, with the weakness again concentrated in services. At the same time, easing inflationary pressures in the services sector helped offset rising costs and selling prices in manufacturing, leading to a slower overall pace of price growth across the private sector.
