US imports rose by $5.2 billion, or 1.2%, to a record $426.6 billion in September 2026, reflecting stronger demand for both goods and services. Goods imports increased by $4.4 billion to $346.9 billion, led primarily by capital goods, which climbed $11.6 billion. Within capital goods, computer imports rose by $7.6 billion and computer accessories by $5.7 billion, while semiconductor imports declined by $1.2 billion. Consumer goods imports also advanced, rising $2.4 billion, largely due to a $2.9 billion increase in pharmaceutical preparations. These gains were partly offset by a $3.7 billion decrease in imports of industrial supplies and materials, including lower imports of nonmonetary gold and crude oil. Services imports increased by $0.8 billion to $79.7 billion, supported by higher spending on travel and transport. Overall, US imports have grown by $204.9 billion, or 6.2%, since the beginning of the year, underscoring sustained demand for foreign goods and services.
