India’s BSE Sensex advanced 2.2% on Friday to close at 81,028, its highest level since early March, extending its winning streak to seven consecutive sessions. Market sentiment was buoyed by sustained foreign investor inflows and lower crude oil prices, amid hopes of a potential resolution to the Middle East conflict.
Foreign investors purchased about 15,000 crore rupees ($1.6 billion) of Indian equities on Thursday, marking their largest single-day net buying in nearly six years. The inflows came against the backdrop of a global rotation out of AI-focused stocks and expectations of possible relief on long-term capital gains tax.
Gains were broad-based across sectors, with financials, banks, autos, and consumer goods outperforming. Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) led the rally, surging 6.2% after the automaker reported second-quarter FY 2027 earnings that significantly beat estimates. ICICI Bank climbed 4.7%, HDFC Bank 3.6%, Titan 3.4%, Axis Bank 3.2%, and Tata Steel 2.2%, all posting solid advances.
For the week, the Sensex rose 8.8%, its strongest weekly performance in six years.
