(RTTNews) - Activity in the manufacturing sector showed a continued contraction in the month of January, according to a report released by the Institute for Supply Management on Monday, although the pace of contraction unexpectedly slowed compared to the previous month.
The report showed that the index of activity in the sector rose to 35.6 in January from 32.9 in December, but a reading below 50 still indicates a contraction in the sector. Economists had expected to the index to come in at 32.0.
