Donald Trump predicts another government shutdown in September

US President Donald Trump has indicated a high likelihood of another funding halt that would lead to a shutdown of the US government this fall. In a statement, the US leader directly forecasted that the country could face a suspension of government operations again in September.

Current funding for key agencies was restored on February 4, when Trump signed a relevant bill. This legislation temporarily averted a budget crisis and ensured the continued operation of government structures through the end of the current fiscal year, which officially concludes in the United States on September 30.

The previous shutdown began on October 1, 2025, and became the longest in the nation’s history, lasting 43 days. As a result of the prolonged pause in government operations, the monthly US budget deficit soared to a record high of $284.35 billion, the largest since 2020. During that period, American servicemen risked temporarily not receiving their pay.
