To begin with, Russia’s president offered his condolences to the French counterpart on the recent terror attacks in Paris. On November 13, Paris became the target of terrorists, suffering three massive attacks. Mr. Hollande thanked Vladimir Putin that Russian people expressed much public sympathy over the tragic events in Paris.

The main point in the agenda was the ongoing situation in Syria. According to the communique, the presidents of France and Russia agreed Thursday to tighten cooperation in the fight against the Islamic State group, although they remained at odds over their approach toward Syrian President Bashar Assad.

The policymakers settled that both parties will exchange intelligence data within the framework of the military campaign in Syria. It is the major outcome of the talks.

French President Francois Hollande has been on a diplomatic drive since the Paris attacks to increase cooperation in tackling IS. He has met this week with President Barak Obama, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi before flying to Moscow on Thursday for talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

"We see that you pay a lot of attention and make efforts to create a broad anti-terrorist coalition. You know our position and we are ready for joint work. Moreover, we believe it is absolutely necessary, our stances are similar in this regard," Putin told Hollande. However, the talks did not result in reaching the common accord on the broad anti-IS coalition and Bashar Assad.
