On November 29th, Paris again slid to chaos caused by a large-scale environmental march. Eco-activists’ behavior was rather aggressive: they were throwing bottles and candles at police officers.

Sunday’s environmental march was organized ahead of the COP 21 Climate Conference that began on Monday in Paris. It is noteworthy that authorities banned public protests. However, tens of thousands of people took to the streets.

About 138 nations will take part in the UN climate change conference. COP21 is expected to result in a new major international agreement to replace the Kyoto Protocol.

Environmental activists symbolically left several tons of shoes on the Place de la Republique in Paris on Sunday, after the cancellation of a climate march.

The French government’s reaction to the environmental march was rather negative. The country’s authorities suppose that attacks on police officers are impermissible.

Police forces arrested 341 protesters on Sunday in the French capital after activists clashed with police at the Place de la Republique. The Paris prosecutor's office said that 317 people were taken into custody following a demonstration seeking to call attention to climate change.

Police responded with tear gas and pepper spray.

France is still living under the state of emergency that was declared after terrorist attacks occurred on November 13th.
