Streetlights, buildings, parking lots, and sports facilities are major contributors, while the growing number of bright satellites is adding a new source of glare overhead. Some communities, including Flagstaff, Arizona, have tried to curb the problem with rules limiting how bright outdoor lights can be, where they point, and what types of bulbs can be used.
