XAU/USD (GOLD)
XAU/USD Following the most recent inflation figures, gold prices decline as the US dollar strengthens. While core inflation is as predicted, headline PCE surpasses projections. Above the 50-, 100-, and 200-day SMAs, XAU/USD continues to exhibit a bullish technical tendency. Wednesday saw more pressure on gold (XAU/USD) as buyers are hesitant to intervene in light of the most recent US inflation data. XAU/USD is now trading at about $4,618 after hitting its highest level since May 14 on Tuesday at $4,697. In July, the headline PCE Price Index increased by 0.2% MoM, surpassing the 0.1% prediction and reversing the 0.1% decrease in June. Headline inflation remained stable at 3.7% annually, higher than the projected 3.6%. In the meantime, the Federal Reserve's (Fed) favored indicator of underlying inflation, the core PCE price index, rose 0.2% MoM, which was faster than the 0.1% gain in June but still matched market forecasts. In keeping with projections, annual core inflation remained stable at 3.3%. The analysis is based on comparatively mild July Producer Price Index (PPI) and Consumer Price Index (CPI) data. When combined, the data did not significantly influence predictions for the Fed's next meeting; according to the CME FedWatch Tool, there is a roughly 65% likelihood that the central bank will keep interest rates steady in September. Consequently, the inflation statistics had no effect on gold. The precious metal often does better when interest rates are low since it is a non-yielding asset. Following the announcement, the US dollar (USD) strengthened on Wednesday, somewhat impacting gold denominated in dollars. The US Dollar Index (DXY), which measures the value of the US dollar relative to a basket of six major currencies, is currently trading at 99.20, up around 0.29% for the day. But worries over growing US debt and fiscal credibility have been rekindled by the US Treasury's move last week to expand buybacks of longer-dated government securities. Gold continues to receive underlying support from the resurgence of the USD debasement narrative.
