NZD/USD
Fundamental Analysis of the NZD/USD NZD/USD is trading near 0.5695 on the eve of two central bank decisions, with the Kiwi stuck just under the 0.5700 handle. The pair stopped just above 0.5700 for a fourth session and ended Monday below it, which shows how hard buyers are finding it to clear this level. The rally itself has been strong, since the climb from the October 14 low just above 0.5550 has stalled under the 50-day EMA, with the 200-day EMA just under 0.5800. The main driver is the Reserve Bank of New Zealand. A third straight hike is now expected, and TD Securities has dropped its call for a pause and expects three hikes to 3.50% , because economists see fuel costs and the weaker Kiwi pushing inflation back above 4% in the fourth quarter. Analysts at Brown Brothers Harriman add that underlying inflation pressure remains resilient despite a softer headline CPI print. The catch is the US side: BBH warns that NZD/USD upside is constrained because Fed tightening limits the scope for policy convergence. Both decisions are due on Wednesday, so traders may wait before taking large positions. Since the hike is already in the price , the reaction will depend on the tone of the RBNZ's guidance and how hawkish the Fed sounds. Meanwhile, daily momentum is overbought for the first time since late July, which raises the odds of a pause or pullback. 1-Hour Chart Analysis On the 1-hour chart, NZD/USD at 0.5695 is moving sideways in a narrow band just beneath 0.5700, after four failed attempts to hold above it. Price is hugging the 5 EMA , which has gone flat , while the 20 EMA near 0.5686 is still rising slowly, so the intraday structure is mildly bullish but short of momentum. This kind of compression is typical ahead of big events, and the breakout direction will probably be set by Wednesday's headlines rather than by technical signals. The first resistance is 0.5700 to 0.5710, then 0.5720 and 0.5760. A clean hourly close above 0.5710, with the 5 EMA moving clearly above the 20 EMA, would suggest a push toward 0.5760. On the downside, the 20 EMA and 0.5670 are the first support, and a close below 0.5670 would put 0.5650 in play, with 0.5600 beneath it. Because the same ceiling has rejected price four times, a breakout without a strong candle body should be treated with caution. A simple approach is to sell a rejection near 0.5700 with a stop above 0.5725 and a target at 0.5670, or to buy only after a firm hourly close above 0.5710. Keep position sizes small before the event, since spreads often widen.
