After plunging to a six-week low of $75,700 on the evening of the US election results, Bitcoin stabilised around $78,200 in early November 2026. After significant shocks removed $300 billion off the entire capitalisation of the cryptocurrency sector in a single month, the market is trying to regain stability. The flagship cryptocurrency is currently selling 41% below its October 2025 peak of $122,000. The total value of all digital assets has decreased to $2.61 trillion. The biggest theft in the history of the sector dealt the biggest shock to the market. Hackers gained access to the Binance exchange's computers in late October and stole $6.3 billion in assets, four times the previous record set by the Bybit hack, which resulted in losses of $1.5 billion. The attack was connected to the North Korean syndicate TraderTraitor, commonly known as Lazarus, according to an FBI investigation. The criminals used a firm systems engineer's work laptop to get beyond security safeguards. Stablecoin issuers Tether and Circle moved quickly to freeze $2.5 billion in digital dollars across the attackers' accounts after part of the stolen money was successfully intercepted. The leadership of Binance promised to restore 95% of account balances by early November by using business reserves and the SAFU (Secure Asset Fund for Users) to reimburse client losses. However, consumers withdrew more over $4.7 billion from the platform after withdrawals were reopened. Leveraged exchange positions were forced to be liquidated for $1.49 billion as a result of the panic. Bitcoin fell below $76,300 after trading platforms automatically auctioned off traders' collateral at market rates. October 2026 became the asset's worst-performing month in twelve years as a result of the occurrence. In response, large withdrawals from exchange-traded funds were made by institutional investors. After the incident, spot ETFs saw net outflows of $643 million during the first trading session and an additional $400 million during the second. Previous inflow trends were broken when cumulative redemptions exceeded $1 billion. The CLARITY Act, a piece of legislation meant to simplify compliance for cryptocurrency companies and limit regulatory scrutiny, was put on hold concurrently with the Democratic Party's victory in the US midterm elections. {"data-align":"none","data-size":"large","data-tempid":"temp_5256434_1793798776656_643"}
